Sounds of India featuring Raja Academy

March 9, 2016

The ancient Indian raag (raga) system is a powerful technology for inner attainment. The word ‘raag’ means mood. Listening to the precisely controlled rhythms, melodies and tones of a raag, our consciousness learns their relation to our emotional and spiritual reality. We can then begin to express that reality and ultimately to change it simply by changing the music.

Come and experience music from the heart of Ancient India, sharing the traditional ragas and forgotten instruments.

“At the Center” choreographed by Giselle Mejia
"Changó y Oyá" danced by Yeniel Chini Perez y Giselle Mejia

Featuring dancers Giselle Mejia, Dario Mejia, Blake Nellis, and Yeniel Chini Perez

“At the Center” is a spiritual autobiographical dance, balancing feminine and masculine energies, of which we are both. It is a journey of transformation that allows a woman to reunite human and divine elements in front of the naked eye through movement. Using improvisations and contact with other bodies, seen and unseen, the dance is an act of embracing the One contained within it, in the experience of being relational with Her, the Divine Dance.

“Oyá" is the powerful Yorùbá Orisha of the winds and tempests. Oyá is known as a fierce warrior and strong protectress of women, who call on Her to settle disputes in their favor.
