Performance artists have been a part of making place for some time now. We are nine sessions into our Arts Organizing Institute (AOI), participants have already begun to explore new ways in which the arts can play an increasingly influential role in community development.
This weekend the AOI got better acquainted with the vibrant cultural and artistic corridor of Lake Street. Walking down Lake Street, participants listened to stories, sang under the 35W bridge, made friends with bus drivers and supported local businesses. On Monday evening they meet with local community organizers, Emilia and Idalia, who introduced participants to a diverse range of lineages and philosophies of community organizing. Stay tuned for more AOI adventures to come!
