Arte con su Taco! 
For the fourth annual Taco Tour on Lake Street, hosted on Sunday, August 6, 2017, Pangea's Lake Street Arts! team collaborated with the Latino Economic Development Center on Arte con su Taco, a new art component to the annual Taco Tour. We were excited to feature 16 incredible Latinx artists and performance groups for over 30 live performances throughout the day. Participants discovered the spicy flavors of Lake Street by touring restaurants offering their own versions of the iconic Mexican specialty while enjoy salsa dance, mariachi bands and much more along the way!

Meet the Artists!

Bomba Karaya Guey

Aiyana Sol Machado - founder of Bomba Karaya Guey: where Taino Afro Boricua arts and philosophy are preserved and shared. Aiyana is a multi-talented, multi-cultural visionary dedicated to the development & sustainability of Native-Indigenous & communities of color for over 20 years. She began as an inner city dance instructor in the East Coast and the Twin Cities encouraging youth to use performing arts to build confidence and resilience. She inspires integrity in diversity and positive learning outcomes through culturally responsive evidence based approaches in youth and program development.

 

Charlie Ibañez

Charlie Ibanñez, with 21 years in the artistic medium of singing music, forming part of Rock groups like the Indigenous Mexican group, LA NUNK MUERTA REBELLION, in which they express their nonconformity to the government in the form of music. Charlie was later in group QBO, Pastilla, invited musician with Juanes...10 years later, he starts his career as a soloist, in the tropical style, now a part of groups like Kalor, La Chica Cumbia, Maravilla among others today he promotes his first album with the hit Debería Odiarte.

Charlie Ibañez, con 21 años en el medio artístico como músico cantante, formando parte de agrupaciones de Rock como el grupo Indígena mexicano LA NUNK MUERTA REBELION, en el cual se expresaban su inconformidad al gobierno de forma musical, formando parte posteriormente en grupos como QBO, Pastilla, músico invitado en Juanes,.... diez años después inicia su carrera como solista pero en el medio tropical, hoy habiendo sido parte de Grupos como Kalor, La Chica Cumbia, Maravilla entre otros hoy promociona su primer disco con el éxito deberia Odiarte.

  

Gerardo Moreno

Between bohemian and contemporary, Gerado Moreno, originally from Venezuela, shows his repertoire full of known songs with a modern touch and with genuine arrangements. With more than 15 years in the world of art, today he's found in the Twin Cities to give the best of Hispanic music.

 

Entre lo bohemio y lo contemporáneo, Gerardo Moreno, originario de Venezuela, muestra su repertorio lleno de canciones conocidas con un toque moderno y con arreglos genuinos. Con más de 15 años en el mundo de la artístico, hoy se encuentra en las ciudades gemelas para brindar lo mejor de la música hispana.

Iña Yukka

Our connections to mother earth is genetically transmitted through our relationships with our mothers and grandmothers. Iná-Yukka vocal duo (Iná = mother in Dakota language, Yukka = son in Aymara language) The Ina Yukka duo consists of Nia Biagetti and her eldest son Vladimir Garrido, both from the city of Arica, Chile. Nia has been singing folk music for over 30 years.

  

Israel Aranda junto con Tlahtoki Xochime

Tlahtoki Xochimeh (vocals and jarana jarocha) participates in a music tradition from Veracruz, Mexico, called Son Jarocho. This genre is 400 years old and has roots in African, Spanish, and Indigenous cultures. He currently facilitates community-based music workshops and seeks to highlight the ways that sound can connect us, as well as heal us.

Janet Nightingale

Janet Nightingale, an 80’s baby, born into a very talented family where her mother was a professional singer for 25 years, traveling all over the country of Mexico. She won first place in Twin Cities Idol, she was asked to sing for the Twins Baseball Game 7th inning. She will unquestionably open up ears and create a buzz in the music industry with what she has in store.

 

Kapulli Mexica Yolotl

Mexica Yoloztl, which means Mexican heart, was founded in March of 2010 in the Twin Cities. It is dedica53e to teaching the culture of Mexico, their rituals, praises and dances. The goal is to continue preserving our Mexican culture and roots.

Mexica Yolotl que significa corazón mexicano fue fundado en marzo del 2010 en las ciudades gemelas. Se dedica a la enseñanza de la cultura Mexica, sus rituales, alabanzas y danzas. La meta es seguir conservando nuestra cultura y raíces mexicanas.

La comparsa Quetzalli de Cuautla Morelos

La comparsa Quetzalli de Cuautla Morelos, meaning beautiful woman, is a group of Chinelos dedicated to women. It was founded 4 years ago and is led by Sandy Sánchez. This organization has had a great experience throughout this time and different social types.

 

La comparsa Quetzalli de Cuautla Morelos, significado mujer hermosa, es un grupo de Chinelos dedicado a las mujeres. Fue fundado cuatro años atrás y es liderado por Sandy Sánchez. Esta organización han tenido una gran experiencia a lo largo de este tiempo y diferentes tipos sociales.

Mariachi Mi Tierra

Mariachi Mi Tierra is the oldest Mariachi ensemble in the Twin Cities. Rosalio Castro, who formed the group in the mid-2003s, has been playing various Mexican styles of music since he was in his teens. Finally is possible to bring together a group that could produce the full sound of authentic mariachi. Most of the members of Mariachi Mi Tierra who have brought a great number of regional and current favorites into the group's repertoire. In addition to events in the local Mexican community, "Mariachi Mi Tierra" also plays at schools, colleges, businesses, casinos, and festivals.

  

Mexico Lindo

Mexico Lindo Folkloric Dance Group emerged  from  the  idea of Father Lorenzo Hubbard, the priest of the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Sacred Heart of Jesus)  community  in  Minneapolis.  Members  of the  youth program, Friends of Jesus, founded the group on November 19, 1999 and named it Mexico Lindo. Father  Lorenzo  then  extended  an invitation to the entire community, including youth and adults.  The group had its first public appearance in May of 2000, performing at Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Church.   After that the group has been participating in different communities as: schools, churches, universities, community centers, bussiness, festivals, etc.

 

In the fall of 2004, children began participating as well, and eventually formed the México Lindo Children’s Group in the winter of 2008.

 

Mexico Lindo is responding to the need to create positive programs where children, youth and adults can invest time and energy to develop and to provide a safe environment. One of the objectives of the group is maintain the proud of our Mexican heritage by showing all the different regions with the colorful customs and unique music for the general public enjoyment.

Today México Lindo has about 30 members, including children and young adults.

Michael D’ Fernández “ La Voz de Oro”

Michael  D’ Fernández “ La Voz de Oro”

Playing Guitar, Trumpet, and he specialize in singing Traditional Mexican Music.

13 years old

Michael started to sing almost 2 years ago, at a local talent show named “MTT” Minnesota Tiene Talento (Minnesota Has Talent). He performed in 2016 in the Minnesota State Fair Talent Show, where he was the only Latino speaker finalist.He embraced his talent helping many nonprofit organization, that specialize helping others in need,  just to mention some:  Angeles Que Ayudan, La Hacienda La Paz, Dios Nunca Muere and many others.

 

He recorded a CD for an Opera Play in St. Paul named “Sweet Hallow” he also recorded a single song and now he is in the preparation of recording his 1st CD with Imperio Records in Chicago IL, he is not only known here in Minnesota,  but also in Wisconsin & Chicago IL.

  

MN Canta

This is a project to help children and teenagers to polish this gift of singing, they will narrate with the help of professionals to perform much better!

Este es un proyecto para ayudar a niños y jóvenes a pulir más ese don de cantar, contarán con la ayuda de profesionales para desempeñarse mucho mejor!

  

Patricia Allende

Patricia Allende, singer and interpreter of traditional Mexican and international music, presenter on radio and television with an extensive artistic career with presentations in social events, popular and cultural in Mexico, United States and Dominican Republic, winning international awards as best interpreter.

 

Patricia Allende cantante e Intérprete de música tradicional mexicana e internacional, presentadora en radio y televisión con una  extensa  trayectoria artística con presentaciones en eventos sociales, populares y culturales en México, Estados Unidos y República Dominicana ganadora de premios internacionales como mejor intérprete.

  

Rafael Rivera y Sus Joyas Norteñas

Rafael Rivera y Sus Joyas Norteñas had started from a young age and with great effort to achieve where they’ve arrived. With participation in social celebration and collaborations in different places in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

 

Rafael Rivera y Sus Joyas Norteñas han iniciado de una edad de mascada joven y con largo esfuerzo para lograr a lo que hora están. Con participaciones en fiestas sociales y como coravraciones en diferentes lugares de Minnesota y Wisconsin. 

  

René Thompson

René Dennis Thompson has been a professional Latin dancer for 37 years, 30 of those years as an instructor and choreographer. He began his career in Cuba in 1973 with a small role as an actor in the popular theater company "4 de Abil" under the direction of Tito Junco. Many other amateur theaters and dance companies helped him develop his artistic vocation. In the early 1980s talent hunters discovered Rene's versatility and soon he became a great Afro-Cuban dancer, performing with several well-known choreographers, directors, and dance companies, further developing his unique style.

1986 brought him into the world of night shows at the most prestigious clubs in Cuba, such as the Tropicana. His energetic and charismatic dance got the attention of many famous choreographers and directors from all over the world. René has performed traditional Afro-Cuban and popular Latin dance all over the world and in many music videos and movies with popular U.S. and international artists, including Will Smith, John Leguizamo, Gloria Estefan, and the Miami Sound Machine.

Born and trained in Cuba, René brings a wealth of knowledge of music and dance and its cultural context to his audience. He teaches the uniquely Cuban steps of Salsa, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Mambo, and other traditional Cuban rhythms. He always includes the heart of the Cuban style, which has its foundation in Africa and Spain, as well as his homeland of Cuba.

Trio Mexico

Founded in the Twin Cities in the 1990’s, Trio Mexico first appeared at small events and venues, as the Hispanic community was establishing. The repertoire included the classic mariachi  &  bolero songs, sometimes with pop American influences. Later, the growing community of Hispanics and the unique interpretation of the trio, created a prominent demand that contributed to the acquaintance of the Twin Cities’ community with the music style and culture. People enjoy the urban folk, Mexico City’s radio like style of the trio, at performances in any venue and event of the Twin Cities’ melting pot. The trio performs requinto (traditional Mexican lead guitar), a Spanish guitar, and a guitarrón (a six strings acoustic mariachi bass guitar), which combined with vocals create its iconic world style.
