Artist Statement from Walken Schweigert:

In her acclaimed and highly regarded work "Caliban and the Witch", Silvia Federici connects the witch hunts of medieval Europe to the origins of capitalism and the spread of neoliberalism around the globe. She offers a convincing theory that the domination of capitalist ideology would not have been possible without the subjugation and oppression of women and queer/trans people and bodies. As a trans person committed to creating culture outside of and that subverts capitalist culture, I want to create and share music that responds, expands, and reflects on Federici’s research.


This is a piece for people seeking social, racial and gender justice who want to go deeper into how connected these movements are. Despite the rise of the word “intersectional”, our communities remain divided in many ways. Capitalism, oppression by the…
