About
(Open to all)
Developed in partnership with Aanmitaagzi Storymakers in Nippissing First Nation, in Northern Ontario, this workshop invites participants to tell their stories as they sit and work with their hands, using buttons, ribbons and shards of torn fabric to create their own quilt square out of the scraps. Stitching together what has been torn apart we will share stories of our mothers, grandmothers and those who gave birth to us. Refreshments are shared to make a comfortable environment so that participants can connect to the people in the room, to the space they are in, and to the land.
“Fabric spans time, space and geography… it represents the legacy of our histories as Indigenous people, and as we sew the threads, pieces and shards of our stories, we are stitching the past to the present and connecting us to the future.” Penny Couchie
